Starling Bank

Sustainability Show 2022

Forget everything you know about banking.

With fast technology, fair service and honest values, Starling was built to disrupt the banking world – not the planet.

As Britain’s first digital bank, we’ve created new ways for people to spend, save and manage their money – and take better care of the planet too!

From reimagining the banking stuff you know (hey there, revolutionary new ways to pay, save and spend) to inventing never-before-seen features (meet the Connected card), we ask customers what they actually need. Then build it, fast.

Over 3.5 million accounts (and four account types!). A team of thousands. Three offices in London, Cardiff and Southampton – with Manchester on the horizon. Five years voted Britain’s Best Current Account.

The only bank in British history that’s been founded by a woman.

Zero branches.

Changing banking for good.

At Starling, we’re determined to do our part to fight climate change and protect the environment.

We believe sustainable banking should be second nature. That’s why we’re branchless, paperless and run on renewable energy. In 2021, we launched the first UK Mastercard debit cards to be made from recycled plastic, and we’ve committed to being net zero by 2050.

Through Trillion Trees, we’ve committed to planting 100,000 trees. And, new for 2023, we’ve partnered with The National Trust, Europe’s largest conservation charity. This means if a customer refers a friend to us, and they sign up to Starling, they’ll both get a free day pass.

Through this three-year partnership, we’re supporting workshops to give primary and secondary school children better access to nature. And supporting other sustainability projects, such as protecting and restoring peatland, one of our most important terrestrial carbon stores.
